She is recognized by Worth magazine as one of the nation’s Top 100 Attorneys, is designated an Oregon Super Lawyer by her peers, and is included in Marquis’ Who’s Who in America, Who’s Who of American Women, Who’s Who in American Law andWho’s Who in the World. She is currently a candidate for a Laureate in Advanced Wealth Strategies certificate from the Southern California Institute’s two-year Laureate in Wealth Strategies Certification Program. A dedicated philanthropist, Ms. Brown has served as a director on numerous boards, including Chemeketa Community College, Cedar Sinai Park, The Oregon Jewish Community Foundation, Willamette Humane Society and the Marion-Polk County Medical Foundation. She is a co-author and -editor of Giving - Philanthropy For Everyone (Quantum Press, 2003, 419 pgs).
After receiving a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of California, Berkeley, Ms. Brown went on to earn her Juris Doctor degree from the Northwestern School of Law at Lewis and Clark College. She is a member of the Oregon and Hawaii Bar Associations, the Probate and Trusts Section of the Oregon State Bar, the Judge Advocate Association, WealthCounsel, the National Academy of Elder Law Attorneys and the American Bar Association. She is licensed to practice law in Oregon and Hawaii and is admitted to practice before the United States Court of Military Review, the United States Court of Military Appeals, the United States District Court for the Western District of Washington and the Supreme Court of the United States.
After graduating from law school, Ms. Brown accepted a direct commission as a Judge Advocate General (JAG) in the United States Air Force. Serving on active duty and as a Special Assistant U.S. Attorney, she prosecuted and won convictions in over twenty fully litigated criminal cases. She served in support of the Gulf War (Kuwait) and was instrumental in designing the first-ever estate planning program at McChord Air Force Base. There she supervised the drafting and implementation of over 8000 wills, trusts and ancillary documents for troops deploying to the Persian Gulf. The highly decorated Lt Col Brown left active duty in 1993, and, in addition to her civilian practice, served her state and country as the State Judge Advocate for the Oregon Air National Guard. She is currently assigned to the United States Air Force Reserve.
A third generation native of Salem, Ms. Brown’s roots are deep in the community. A licensed pilot, scuba diver, and avid world traveler, she once rode a motorcycle 28,000 miles throughout North America, had a private audience with Pope John Paul II, and circumnavigated the globe by sea. She and her teenage daughter Natalie live in Salem and are active in a variety of community and charitable activities. |
